This map shows where my trip will take me.
I begin at point A: My house. The place that I am staying during the trip is point B.
The next stop is the Emily Dickinson Museum in MA, point C.
Next, I will be visiting the Robert Frost Mansion in NH, point D.
Then comes the Mark Twain House in CT, point F.
That same day, I'll see the Harriet Beecher Stowe Home, point E (hidden behind F).
After that, I will see Edith Wharton's home, the Mount, point G.
Finally, I will visit the Robert Frost Museum in VT, point H.
That's over 25 hours of driving in six days!
My name is Sarah. I'm a senior at a small private college in the Fingerlakes. I've always had a passion for literature. After being really indecisive, I decided to become an English major (get all of your "you'll be working at Starbucks forever" jokes out). I'd really like to use my English degree to educate students, but not in a classroom setting. I really enjoy museums and how they curate art, literature, and history.
For my junior internship, I have decided to visit six literary museums across New England over a week. During this time, I will be seeing:
- Two of Robert Frost's homes
- Mark Twain's house
- Harriet Beecher Stowe's home
- Edith Wharton's house
- Emily Dickinson's museum
This trip will take me to Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. At each of these museums, I will be studying how museums curate literature and learn about the different narrative styles presented by each museum. At the end of the trip, I will have completed this blog about my entire experience.
I am counting the days until I am able to see a part of the country I've never been to, learn about the lives of authors that I would not normally be able to, and give me the opportunity to further my passion for museum education.
